HEALTH CARE – THE OTHER WAY
OR
PAYING OURSELVES FOR BEING WELL

A new danger. I see that drug companies are promoting products so addictive that they will equal the kind of destruction that the tobacco industry has brought upon the people. Equaling what the bankers and the Wall Street shysters knowingly did to the world. One example: the vast overselling of antidepressants. There are other ways.

In this huge push for better health care, the part most overlooked and most needed is prevention. We should pay ourselves to be well. Get perks for it. We should push, pressure, inveigle people to recondition their thinking into realizing that simple, better behavior can produce a nearly constant state of wellness. What I predict will not come about until the effects of the current cry and demand for over-medication and the over-management of health care backfires. Then an acknowledgement of a more natural position on health awareness can replace it.

Medicine won’t disappear, but a wellness plan for living can replace the sickness plan. Sickness of the body is actually a necessity because it informs the mind that something is wrong, which can include unconstructive thinking in a direction that is deleterious to both the mind and body. The body and the emotions are one big giant thermometer telling us what we are doing to ourselves. If you are feeling bad, sad… whoa, stop! Find a better thought pattern that allows exhilaration, joy, genuine happiness. And I mean genuine so that there is genuine health, wealth, well-being. These all go together. This is a time when either a change in thinking, a religion, a philosophy, the 12 steps, or a place for peace of mind can change a sick to a healthy life, and then this practice can continue for the rest of one’s life.

Teach and embrace this method of prevention and health insurance would go from 16% of our income to close to none. Think of paying yourself to be well. From what you save, think of the vacations you could take. Think of the happiness in your bones and muscles. The strain, the stress released. How much more pleasure you could have living out your life. It is possible but you would have to use a new way of thinking. Ask: “What are the well people doing?” You could give yourself this gift.

What a worthy nation we would be. We’d be the leaders of the world again.
